How EDHLL South Teams Are Formed

After most of the hundreds of applications are processed and reviewed, the procedure of forming teams and assigning players to divisions and teams begins.

In EDHLL South, divisions A through Juniors are drafted annually. TBall and Coach Pitch players are placed according to age and experience.

Criteria Used:

In placing or drafting your player on one of the lower division teams (T-Ball, Coach Pitch, A, AA), these factors are considered
:
Safety
Age
Experience
Assessment Score
Registration Date
Available Roster Spots
Manager Requests
Previous Coach Comments
Carpool Requests
Player or Team Requests

As an example, while a 7 year old with no experience or assessment score would most likely be placed in Coach Pitch because of his age, a 6 year old would have to attend the annual skills assessment and score well enough to move up to that division, even though he may generally be a stronger player than that particular 7 year old.

Additionally, Little League age (Age as of April 30) means that many times, players in the same school grade will be in different divisions. As an example, a player whose 8th birthday falls later than April 30 will be league age 7, while his friend, whose birthday falls on April 30 or sooner will be league age 8.

While EDHLL South tries to accomodate player requests, it is important for the credibility of the league and fairness to the players to make as few exceptions as possible, and when there are exceptions, there are compelling circumstances that will benefit both the league as well as the player.

Even though 8 year olds normally qualify for A division without an assessment score, they are expected to attend the skills assessment so that the teams may be formed with approximately the same talent level, or the draft may be run more accurately.

Some parents hold their children out of the assessments altogether, thinking that they will have a better chance to get into the division of their choice. The reality is that a player with no assessment score is placed at the bottom of the heirarchy for that criterium, or placed as a hat pick.

By age: 5-6 year olds will be in T-Ball, 7 year olds, a few 6 year olds with high assessment scores and 8 year olds not ready for A division will be in Coach Pitch, 8 and 9 year olds, and a limited number of 7 year olds will be in A division, qualified 9 year olds, 10 year olds and a few 8 year olds with exceptional skills play AA.

Our goal is to place your player in a division and team most suited to his abilities, while honoring the requests you may have made on your application if possible. While exceptions may be made, it is the responsibility of EDHLL South to make the final determination of the composition of its teams.
